Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11-12 NIV
THEME: LET’S EMULATE THE BEREANS
WORDS OF HOPE:
We live in a generation where all manner of things are preached in the name of ‘revelation’; and quite often, when you hear the preacher say, ‘catch this!’ or ‘watch this!’, you can be sure he’s just about to ‘spit out’ one of those ‘revelations’ (often, an interpretation or application of scripture in a manner no one has thought of or taught before). But the question is, do we, after we have heard these teachings, messages, revelations and so on, subject them to the ‘lab test’ of scriptures to see whether or not they are true? The Bereans were not sceptics or critics, rather they were enthusiasts, they received the message with ‘great eagerness’. Yet they did not swallow everything the preacher said. Rather their eagerness drove them to examine the scriptures to ascertain the validity of what they heard and were eager about. How many times do we search the scriptures with the view to finding out whether what we’ve been taught is true or not? To do so requires some amount of open-mindedness. Yes, be eager, be zealous, or even ‘wild’ for the word or ‘revelation’ but don’t swallow it hook-line-and-sinker. Let’s emulate the Bereans!

● Pray that in these last days, you’ll not be gullible but you’ll be as wise as a serpent.
● Pray that God will make you like the Bereans; that you’ll search the scriptures to confirm whatever message you hear.
PRAYER:
Lord, may You help us not to be deceived. May we be like the Bereans. Amen 🙏🏽
