THEME: SERVANT LEADERSHIP; JESUS OUR ROLE MODEL
TODAY’S VERSE: (Read John 13:1-17)
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.
WORDS OF HOPE:
In the passage, Jesus shows vividly the real meaning of becoming a servant leader by washing the feet of His disciples which should probably have been the other way round.
Servant leadership depicts love for followers or others other than oneself. Christians must think more of others than themselves as Jesus did. Jesus was fully aware of His position as leader as shown in verse 14. Before the disciples experienced Him as their servant, they had already experienced Him many times before as Master, and as a strong and extremely powerful leader.
Jesus voluntarily became a servant to His followers. He did not come primarily as their foot washer, but He was ready to do this service for His followers if needed.
Jesus wants to set an example for His followers to follow and that exactly is what He expects from us His children and servants. Servant leadership will eventually invoke blessings upon as and will also show the way for followers to become servant leaders themselves.
• Seek the Holy Spirit`s help to eschew pride and grow in humility.
• Ask the Lord to grant you grace at all times.
• Ask Jesus to teach you to become a servant leader.
Dear Lord Jesus, crush my pride and help me develop humility at all times by the help of the Holy Spirit.
