But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.
Philippians 3:7-8
THEME: THE EXCELLENCY OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST
WORDS OF HOPE:
Paul’s religio-social credentials were top-notch. He was a Hebrew of Hebrews, an avid believer and follower of the Law (i.e. a Pharisee), zealous, and blameless. He was so top class that he could boldly say he had more reason to ‘have confidence in the flesh’ than others did. However, actually, as of the time Paul was writing the text under consideration, he did not think those credentials were anything anyone had to take pride in. In fact, he felt that they were nothing but worthless, detestable dung! Why is that? Because he had discovered something far better, namely, ‘the excellency of the knowledge of Christ.’ Getting to know Christ had become his life-long endeavour. That was what he lived for and that gave him satisfaction in life. What value do you place on knowing Christ? How important is getting close to God to you? What are you willing to give up in order to be well-acquainted with Him? To what extent are you willing to go to know Him deeply? As Paul makes us realize, nothing really compares to knowing Christ. Let nothing prevent you from knowing Him, from getting well-acquainted with Him. Decide to know Him intimately. Decide to draw close to Him. Shalom!
PRAYER POINTS:
• You may have placed more value on other things than on knowing Christ. Confess your sins to Him and ask for His forgiveness.
• Ask the Lord to ignite passion in your heart for Him; that which will make you desire strongly to know Him.
• Ask the Lord for grace not to spare any effort to know Him intimately.
PRAYER:
Lord, may you bless me with an insatiable desire to know You from today onwards in Jesus’ name! Amen 🙏🏽
