DAILY WORDS OF HOPE
BY PCG, HOPE CONGREGATION – SAK. EST.
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. 1 Corinthians 9:27 KJV
THEME: DON’T BE A SIGNBOARD CHRISTIAN
WORDS OF HOPE:
‘Don’t be a signboard Christian!’ was a popular admonition in sermons and exhortations in Churches and Fellowships in the 90’s. ‘Signboard’ was used allegorically to illustrate ‘Christians’ who, quite like a signboard, seemed to show the way to a venue (perhaps Christ/Church/The Kingdom of God/Heaven) but never went there themselves. You’d agree with me that this admonition is still relevant today, perhaps, even much more. Look at what Paul did to avoid becoming a signboard Christian (from various versions of the Bible); ‘I keep under my body’ KJV; ‘I beat my body and make it my slave’ NIV; ‘I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should.’ NLT. The one from ‘THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language’ Version is worth quoting in full: ‘I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself.’ Beloved, let’s follow the apostolic example, let’s quit being signboards, let’s stay alert and in top condition, lest we become castaways.
· Pray that God should help you make it to heaven.
· Pray that you will not to be a hypocrite.
· Pray for strength to put your-self in check.
Lord we ask for grace not to be signboard Christians but Christians who are on their way to heaven in Jesus’ name. Amen.
