DAILY WORDS OF HOPE

TODAY’S VERSE: PHILIPPIANS 3:12-14
THEME: PRESSING TOWARD THE GOAL
WORDS OF HOPE:
Christian perfection is a process. Till our Lord Jesus appears or we are invited home, it is expected of us to strive to live right on daily basis. Paul used an interesting phrase to describe his spiritual life in Jesus. He said, “I press on”. That phrase means to “vigorously pursue”. The goal of every believer is to make it to heaven one day. However, on the way to heaven, there are a lot of obstacles and challenges. Paul says I press on towards the goal. It is only when you have a goal that you can press on. Forget the past things and focus on the goal. Until we get to heaven, we have not arrived yet. We must strive and desire to live God’s way all the time.
Would you describe your life as a Christian as vigorously pursuing the goal of heaven and the reward that awaits? I think that we as Christians often suffer from short-sightedness. We keep our heads down and never look ahead toward the prize. We shuffle our feet and never move with intention toward the goal. We just try to make it through the day with no clear direction, no pursuit, no goal in sight. When that happens, we have allowed the enemy, Satan, to win the day! It is time to get focused. It is time to turn our eyes toward the prize. It is time to aim for the goal.
Our focus on Christ is not something we do just one day of the week when we worship. It is a constant – a singular focus. One thing I do, I live for Christ no matter what I do in my career.
• Pray for the grace to endure to the end
• Pray for grace to forget your past
• Pray to strive for perfection
Lord, I forget what is behind and strain what is ahead in order to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Amen
