HOPE Congregation launch 25th anniversary celebration

HOPE Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Sakumono-Estates has officially launched its 25th anniversary celebration with a mega Sunday Service which had in attendance both founding and current members. Dressed in colorful anniversary T’Shirts, the congregants danced and praised God for seeing the church through 25 years of bringing Christ’s message of hope to members of the congregation and the community Sakumono.

In attendance were some founding members and ministerial team who nurtured the congregation. They included Rev. Erasmus Odonkor and Rev. William Quaye. Also present  were Catechists Otu Masi, Monica Aba Otoo, and Abena Asiedua. Former Senior Presbyter, Mr. Benjamin Botwe as well as the two of the founding trio, Mrs. Naa Shormey Gyemfi Adu and Mr. Isaac Akesseh. Representatives of other congregation in the Sakumono District also joined the Congregation in the celebration.

Preaching the sermon on the theme, “Wealth and the Kingdom of God”, the Ga Presbytery Church chairperson, Rev. Victor Oko Abbey underscored the need for Christians to put their trust in God and not in material and worldly things. He admonished the congregation to use their wealth, riches and all they have to advance the work of God and build up treasures in heaven. “We a very rich as Christians. We need to share our love with friends and family. Jesus has called us and endowed us, we need to go out, give up and give out what we have according to what God has told us and through that we will be building up our treasures is heaven.” He said the love of God should compel us to reach out to others and not hold on to material things. To the congregation, he advised, that the attitude that was in Jesus should be the same attitude in them throughout.

On the anniversary celebration, Rev. Abbey encouraged the congregants to ignite the HOPE that what engendered 25 years. All the past experiences should give the church some hope and forge ahead and allow yourselves to trust in God. He urged all to rely on the theme for the anniversary to do what God is asking of you. Keep on going, distributing and sharing what you have.

Programme of Activities
Stephen Nii Lankwei Lawson, the resident minister said the anniversary planning committee in consultation with the session has come up with the theme, “The HOPE that never disappoints” based on two scriptures Rom 5: 5 and Hebrews 10: 23. In outlining the programme of activities for the celebrations, Rev Lawson said the celebrations has been so programmed to bring members together and see themselves as a family. He urged the congregation to commit the themselves to God, church and participate fully in the plethora of events between now and 2016.

Line up
After the official launch, there will be a candle light street procession. On October 28-30, Rev Dr. Lawrence Tetteh will deliver a talk. Other events include at Intergroup Bible quiz and competitions, anniversary games, health walk, a revival, music and worship night, a photo exhibition on the journey of twenty five years, a family outing to Aburi Garden, time with former Rev Minister, clean up exercise, blood donation among others.

The Committee has also proposed a mass wedding scheduled for Love Sunday, February 14, 2016. The anniversary anthem composed by Isaac Okyere Ankama was sung for the first time while the sacred arts ministry hoisted the flag for the anniversary. Souvenirs including anniversary cloth was unveiled and auctioned.
