The Hope Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in the Sakumono District has officially welcomed Rev. Mrs. Sylvia Emily Akuffo Anning Bonsu as the third minister of the congregation at a special service held on Sunday, July 14, 2019, at the congregation main auditorium.
Rev. Mrs. Sylvia Emily Akuffo Anning Bonsu joins the ministerial team of Hope Congregation having earlier served as Minister in Charge of the Peniel Congregation, Gbetsile in the Tema North District, from 1st September 2014 to 31st August 2017.
She was ordained on the 19th of June 2016 at the P.C. G. Covenant Congregation, Dzorwulu District. She expressed appreciation to the District Minister and the Congregation for the warm welcome and promised to play her part to support the growth of the church.
Below is the profile of Rev. Mrs. Sylvia Emily Akuffo Anning Bonsu.
Rev. Mrs. Sylvia Emily Akuffo Anning Bonsu was born on 29th February 1964 in Accra, to the Late General Frederick William Kwasi Akuffo and Mrs Emily Victoria Oduraa Akuffo both of Akropong Akwapim in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
She is the second born of four children and was baptised into the Presbyterian family in the year 1966. She had her basic education in several towns in Ghana due to the frequent transfers of her father who was an officer in the Ghana Army. She attended the Sakasaka primary school in Tamale, Services primary school at Burma Camp in Accra and the University primary school at U.S.T. Kumasi amongst others.
She furthered her education at Aburi Girls’ Secondary school where she studied General Arts. She was confirmed in 1978 and sat for the G.C.E. O’Levels in 1981.
She gained admission to Kilburn Polytechnic in the United Kingdom in September 1981 where she majored in Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management. She continued to Cassio College, in Watford U. K. Where she graduated in Bakery Organization and practice in 1985.
She worked in various establishments in the Hotel and catering industry until she relocated to Ghana in 2001 to set up her own Contract Catering Business.
Whilst pursuing her Career she also pursued her spiritual duty to God. In 2001 she joined the Prince of peace Congregation in Tema Community Two District and offered herself for various services in the Church which included managing the Prince of Peace Canteen which served both the School and the Church. She was also a member of the Gospel Singers and Women’s fellowship until she entered the Lay Ministries Catechist Training at Abetifi Kwahu and was consecrated on 7th of October 2012. She served as a Catechist at the Prince of peace Congregation from 2012 to 2014
Rev Sylvia studied at the Trinity Theological Seminary where she obtained a certificate in Ministry (CIM) She responded to the call into the ordained Ministry and went through the Special Ministerial Training Course at Abetifi Kwahu, and was commissioned on the 3rd of August, 2014.
She was posted to Peniel Congregation Gbetsile in the Tema North District, where she was Minister in Charge from 1st September 2014 to 31st August 2017. She was ordained on the 19th of June 2016 at the P.C. G. Covenant Congregation, Dzorwulu District. Rev Sylvia is a widow and is blessed with a daughter.
