Passage: Deuteronomy 30:15-20, Luke 14:25-33
Service Type:

The call to discipleship is not an easy one. You may lose your social status, job etc but as a Christian, you should be rest assured that God will give you a better replacement and also offer you a secured relationship with himself now and forever. If someone wants to take undue advantage of you because you are looking for a job or spouse or anything, we are being called to maintain your dignity and be patient because the bible tells us that all things work together for good for those who love The Lord and are called according to his purpose.

You may go through unfair treatment, injustice and a whole lot of temptations, if you are not careful, you will compromise the truth but to compromise means you are dropping the cross.

God makes a way where there is no way. You may go through unfair treatment, injustice and a whole lot of temptations, if you are not careful, you will compromise the truth but to compromise means you are dropping the cross.

You may decide to be silent or go with the crowd instead of standing for the truth. People will call you all sorts of names, they may shun your company, lie about you and you may be seen as an odd person because you have opted to be upright. But once you have decided to be faithful to the end, you do not have to be discouraged. They may be trials and you may fall at a point but this is no time to remain stuck. You need to grow in The Lord so confess and move on.

Jesus Christ said, anyone who does not renounce all he has cannot be his disciple. Church, there are two possible 'LORDS' that we can serve, GOD and mammon.

The love of money is the source of all kinds of evil, especially the evil of trusting in money and possessions rather than depending on Christ. The desire to get rich has caused some people to lose their way.

Many have yielded to temptations and embraced many harmful results. Christ is the source of all that we have and we will find contentment in him rather than in riches.

To love money is to lose sight of the source of life. Are you ready to suffer and be rejected for the sake of Christ or hold on to your possessions so that you can escape suffering and rejection?

These do not mean that all suffering is as a result of being a good Christian. For example, you may think that you are being picked on for your faith when it is obvious to everyone else that your own unpleasant behavior like bribery, corruption, disrespect, laziness, pride, love of possessions and others are the cause of our problems.

Sometimes, we wake up at dawn to pray and in so doing disturb our neighbours because we are in the spirit but that is wrong. There are so many places we can go and pray without being a nuisance to our neighbours who are sleeping or resting.

If you have an option to choose possessions and being faithful to Jesus, which one will you choose? Will you remain with Christ only when times are good or remain faithful no matter what happens?

We all have the desire to prosper and enjoy life and so we naturally want to avoid pain and suffering. But we can be assured that whenever we suffer because of our loyalty to Christ, He will be with us all the way.

We must therefore hold on to the cross and remain faithful.

In Deuteronomy 30:15......we have been given the choice between life and death, blessing and curses. Heaven and earth are called to be witnesses to what we choose so let us choose life. Love God, obey his commandment, commit ourselves to him.

Let us all grow in holiness and we will live long in the life that God had promised us.
The cost of discipleship may be so unbearable but no matter what happens, remember that God is in Control.

WHAT ARE THE REWARDS
We will be blessed
We will be strengthened
We will be repaid in this life and the next where there is no persecution.
We will gain eternal life.In conclusion, Christ is saying that we should do his will no matter the trials that come our way. We should remain faithful to GOD to the end.

Amen
