According to scientist, the Sun is regarded as the light of the world. In spite of the Sun's greatness, it is not the "Light of the World."
The Light of the World," is the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Jesus declared, "l am the Light of the World,"
"l am the Light of the World" refers to His glory. It is about what He came to do.
Jesus' life was about bringing life to people as indicated in Luke 4:18-19; Isaiah 61:1-2. Again in John 1:4, we read that; "In Him was life and life was the light of men." Jesus brought life, hope and restoration to a world of hopelessness and brokenness.
He freed some from the prison of sickness, others from the loneliness of being an outcast or low class. He brought freedom from the grips of death, freedom from ignorance concerning God, His Kingdom, the meaning of obedience and the way of salvation. He also freed some from their sins by granting forgiveness.
This life Jesus brings is rooted in His sacrificial act of offering Himself on the cross to take away the guilt of sin. "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" (John.1:29). "For the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many"(Mark. 10:45).
Jesus came to display all the goodness of God through His acts towards people. Jesus came teaching the truth. Jesus came to bear the punishment for our sin. Jesus is the Light of the World, and for that matter "The Light to all men."
We never see ourselves truly until we see ourselves in the context of Christ. When we compare ourselves to Christ and His Word, we are confronted with our true selves.
We are sinners in need of a Saviour. It takes a good deal of humility to receive the light that Christ gives to all men.
The light reveals truth about Christ Himself.
The light also reveals the truth concerning the way of salvation. The light that Jesus gives causes growth.
The presence of Jesus in us changes us and purifies us.
To the Christian, Jesus says, "You are the light of the world...so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven" Matthew 5:14-15.
It is the light of Jesus that shines in us and helps us to live like a believer and tell the good news. Receive Jesus as your Light. Continue to look to Him as your Light.
Therefore, let Jesus shine for you and through you.
