Preacher:
Passage: James 2: 14 - 17

Faith is defined as complete trust, believe, conviction or confidence in someone or something. According to Hebrews 11, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

This suggests that faith is a firm persuasion and expectation that God will perform all that He has promised to us in Christ and help us obtain a good report.

As Christians, we must believe and hope in God just as a child will trust in his or her parents to provide them with all their needs. We must learn to put our trust in God because He is the Creator of all things and knows our every need.

As Christians, our mandate if we want to develop our faith in the Lord is not only by hearing the message but also making a mental assent of the word. That way, faith is resident in the mind. We need to read and ponder on the word of God and allow the word to speak to us.

How do you show that you have faith?

Christians must take action on their conviction and belief. It is only through your action that one will demonstrate to the world that one has faith. By hearing, pondering and acting on the word of God, people will see that you have faith in the Lord.

Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Again the Bible in James 2, the Bible says faith without works is dead. The phrase “faith without works is dead” refers to a believer living without a desire to accomplish good works for God.

We need to trust in God at all times. When we trust in God, we will be able to face the world with all its challenges. When David was faced with a challenge of confronting Goliath, he told himself, "the Lord is my shepherd." And with that, he was able to gather the courage to face his fears.

As Christians, we need to be patient and wait for God's timing. In the economy of God, timing is important. He has heard your prayer and in his own time, we will honour his word. May we be patient enough to wait for the Lord. May we learn to put all our trust on God.

Take God by his word and in his own time, trusting him at all times, He will fulfil his word.

Amen.
