Passage: ISAIAH 11:1-10 ROMANS 15:4-13 MATTHEW 3:1-12
Service Type:

Introduction: Why Hope in Jesus? As Christians, we have hope in Jesus because its the right thing to do and we believe that when we hope in him, He will order our steps.

Christ Jesus is the Hope of the world, For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight". Matthew 3:3 (RSV).

In Romans 15:12 And again, Isaiah says: "There shall be a root of Jesse; And He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, In Him, the Gentiles shall hope." We get this hope through repentance. In Matthew 3:2 we are called to "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."(RSV). Again John 1:12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave the power to become children of God; (RSV)

As Christians, we are mandated to bear the Fruit of the Spirit, live and walk by the Spirit if we are to sustain and grow this Hope. Matthew 3:8 says Bear fruit that befits repentance.

What are some of the false Hope people have? – Presumptions.
Mathew 3:9 states that we should not presume to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father'; for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham.

What is the consequence of non-response to and lack of growth in this Hope in Christ? – Destruction as quoted in Mathew 3:10 - Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees; every tree, therefore, that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

What is the experience of a person who has and is growing in this Hope? – Baptism of the Holy Spirit and Fire Mt 3:11 "I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. How is this Hope in Christ offered to the Lost World? – Through the Logos and Rhema word and Our Lives.

Romans 15:4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. John 16:12-14

In conclusion:
What kind of life or story are you writing in your Ministry, Marriage, Relationships, Career, Giving Life as a Husband, Wife, Child, Parent, Grand Parent etc. – the Good, bad and ugly. Remember, God is interested in every aspect of our life.

Amen
