Passage: Psalm 118:25-26, Luke 19:29-38

Jesus is on a donkey traveling with his disciples to Jerusalem. But when He got to Bethany, a crowd who might have witnessed or heard of his numerous miraculous deeds came out to hail him. They shouted “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!”  Save us, save us now!

They were tired of the Romans rule; they had been suppressed for so long a time so when they saw Jesus riding on a donkey they concluded that, finally liberation had come. They saw him as their political giant, who could fight and conquer the Romans. But they missed it, because they were expecting physical liberation and not spiritual freedom.

Many of us are like the Jews; instead of chasing after spiritual things, we run after worldly and temporal things which do not last. Matt. 6:33 says “seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; all other things shall be added onto you”. Let us rather crave for spiritual liberation and all other physical things shall follow. Amen.
