Preacher:
Passage: Colossians 3:1-11, Luke 12:13-21

What is the purpose of man? The purpose of man is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever. One can only do this by setting his heart on things above.

Your heart depict your actions and attitude but because of our sinful nature we turn to lose sight of this vision.

LESSONS FROM THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FOOL

  • Greed leads to death.

  • Our attitude to wealth must not lead us to oppose God.

  • Do not occupy yourself with the present but eternity.

  • Balance your spiritual and physical needs.

  • Assumption that one lives forever in this world is a big mistake.

You need to set your heart on things above because you are now a new creation in God. A life of fulfilment for a believer is to have fellowship with God and not have sight on material things.

HOW DO I  SET MY HEART ON THINGS ABOVE

  • Put to death your sinful nature.

  • Control your actions or decisions, you can do all this through the SPIRIT that is in you as a CHRISTIAN.

  • Use your riches to help your neighbours.

  • Let us set our eyes on the things above not on earth.

CONCLUSION

  • Setting your heart on things above affects your relationship with God and man positively.

  • Have a proper attitude towards riches. David used his riches to contribute to building of a Temple (Chronicles 29).

  • Store up your treasures in heaven.

  • Use your riches to glorify God and your neighbour.

  • Heaven is a better place; so let us avoid unnecessary things.
