Preacher:
Passage: Romans 8:1-11, Galatians 5:16-21

Our God is spirit and thus He must be worshiped in spirit and in truth. Holiness, meditation, prayer, forgiveness, intercession, bible study and the likes are the things that makes us spiritual.

But today, we won’t be talking about these things, instead we would talk about those that make us unspiritual.

Adultery, fornication, uncleanliness, idolatry, hatred, jealousy, selfishness, sedition, factions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, lasciviousness, witchcraft, discord, wrath, murder and among others all fall under things that hinder our spiritual walk.

Do not be disheartened if you fall under any of these or even more. I also fall under one of these. But the good news is, God is here to deliver us all provided we allow Him. We must have in mind that those who live like the above mentioned will not inherit the kingdom of God.

If we want to live in the spirit we have to live in step with the spirit. i.e. doing WHAT God wants us to do WHEN He wants us to, and NOT doing WHAT He doesn’t want us to do. Psalm 8:1-11 gives us the benefits of walking in the spirit.

When we walk in the spirit,

- There is indeed no condemnation for us.

- We are set free from the law of sin.

- We are set free from the power of death.

Mortals as we are, we do fall short of God's standards but there is hope for us through Jesus Christ our Lord. When we walk carnally, there is no peace, neither is there life but when we walk in the spirit, we have peace and life. Walking in the spirit enables us to please God. We are not controlled by the sinful nature. Thus making it easier for us to please God.

In Proverbs 28:13, we learn about confessions. We must confess our sins, since God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In pleasing God, we must yield to the Spirit doing whatever God demands. We must be drunk with the Holy Spirit. We must have the filling of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). We must therefore rise and be in step with the Spirit. Just as we go to the doctor to make sure our temperature remains normal, so must we check our spiritual temperature daily by studying Gods word and being in step with His Spirit.

Lord, help us live according to your word to the glory of your Holy name. In Jesus' name. Amen
