Passage: John 2: 1-11

Mary and Jesus attended a family wedding at Cana. Cana was an insignificant community, but made

history with Jesus (John 21:2). God regularly chose unlikely candidates to do His work - Moses (was a
stammerer but was chosen as PRO), David (was called from the bush) and Gideon (whose knowledge
about God was just in Sunday school). Jesus also made similar choices to reveal his glory- Bethlehem,
Nazareth, shepherds, Peter etc (1 Cor. 1:28)

At the wedding, there was a shortage of wine (John 2:2). Jesus’ mother commanded Him; He was
expected to act to save the situation. In Jesus’ answer, Mary ignored His reaction and insisted on
obedience. Then followed the miracle (John 21: 6-7) and it was testified, “the ‘water’ wine was better
and even more than the ‘brewed’ wine they have toiled for (Pro 10: 22) “

After the miracle, then the MC called the bridegroom and commented “Everyone brings out the
choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have
saved the best till now.” This may be a praise or probably a complain, but we are admonish to learn to
appreciate the workings of God when it comes on our way. The first wine (laws of Moses) was a burden;
the new wine (grace of God) brings salvation.
In Conclusion, Invite Jesus into your plans right from the beginning. With Moses miracle: water was
turn into blood; but in Jesus’ miracle: water was turn into wine, a new era. Jesus provides a ministry of
joy and hope, a dependable benefactor. Don’t give up, Jesus will provide you with the better wine (Ps.
27:13).

Invite Jesus into your plans right now to commence the year… May you have a blessed week.
