Passage: I Kings 17: 8-16 , Mark 12: 38 – 44

For our reflection today, we are looking at three very important cardinal, prime, key or fundamental words in Christianity – watching, praying and waiting.

WATCH
In Matthew 26: 40, Christ said, watch and pray that you will not fall into temptation. What are we to watch? From the first passage in 1 King 17:8-16, we must be ready to share with the people the little that you may have. Be careful when you are tempted to rationalize and make excuses. This is for the Christians who are stingy. Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

This is Christian principles that must be watched. If you want to receive from God be ready to give to people. Be ready to sacrifice and offer something of significance to God. Jesus identified the widow in the second reading as the best. It is not about the quantum of the giving but the heart that is behind. Be good to strangers. Watch for pride and arrogance like the teachers of the law in the second reading

WHY PRAYER
The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much- James 5:16 b

We pray for spiritual nourishment. You will only win if you depend on God. If you are malnourished, you are prone to sicknesses. Any disease can knock you done. People nowadays take different food supplements to boost their system. Prayer and the work of God build your spiritual resistance. That is why we encourage every member to be part of the evening programs. We need to prayer for our work. We need to thank God all the time and prayer to scatter and dissuade evil in our society.

WHY WAIT
It is never too late for you. God has a plan for you. In Jeremiah 29:11, God says "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Amen
