DAILY WORDS OF HOPE
BY PCG, HOPE CONGREGATION–SAK. EST
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. Matthew 13:45-46
THEME: THE PEARL OF GREAT PRICE
WORDS OF HOPE:
Pearls are beautiful and very precious. A strand of White South Sea pearls, for instance, could cost hundreds of thousands of United States dollars. They were equally expensive in Jesus’ time; according to Pliny the Elder (23 AD–79 AD), ‘the topmost rank of all things of price [in the Roman Empire] was held by pearls.’
Thus, Jesus used pearls to illustrate how precious the kingdom of heaven is; to show us that discovering and coming into a relationship with God is invaluable and that we ought to give our all for it. Jesus wants us to realize that to be part of the kingdom of heaven, to have the opportunity to know and build a relationship with God, is ‘a pearl of great price’! It is a priceless opportunity. It is far more important and worthwhile than any other endeavour we could set our hearts on.
So, as the merchant sold all he had in order to be able to buy the pearl of great, so are we. We are to value our relationship with God enough to trade all we have for it. What do you need to trade for more of God in your life? What do you need to ‘sell’ out of your life in order to get closer to God and know better? Don’t delay. Be like the merchant man. Trade it! Shalom!
• Pray that God will enable you to realize how important knowing Him and being His child is.
• Ask the Lord for grace to trade everything you need to trade to know Him intimately.
Lord, may I be like the merchant man. May I trade all that I have to know and have You, the Pearl of Great Price. In Jesus’ name, I pray! Amen 🙏🏽
