DAILY WORDS OF HOPE
BY PCG, HOPE CONGREGATION–SAK. EST
TODAY’S VERSE: 1 JOHN 5:4-5
THEME: OVERCOMING THE WORLD – BELIEVE IN JESUS
WORDS OF HOPE:
The theme for this month is Living the Victorious Christian Life. The thought of victory signifies there are things that must be overcome. To overcome is to subdue or to prevail, and the Apostle John helps throw more light on this kind of life and what must be overcome.
From our anchor text, one of the things that must be overcome to be victorious in life is the world. The world is the systems by which the earth is governed, and includes the systems of governance, education, commerce, religion etc. It is made up of lusts (passions, pleasures, longings, cares) and pride according to 1 John 2:16.
These lusts choke up the word of God, and gradually banish it from our hearts. They are like the thorns in Mark 4; they render the word of God ineffective and must be overcome or subdued.
We overcome the world by our: Identity, Faith and Good Cheer
According to 1 John 5:4, everyone who is born of God overcomes the world. To be born of God is to believe that Jesus is the Christ. This believing is the identity required to overcome the world.
Every one of us who believes in the Lordship of Jesus is therefore a world overcomer. Hallelujah! Beloved, be excited about your identity in Christ because in your identity lies your victory over the world.
• Thank God that Jesus is your LORD and Saviour.
• Pray for all men the world over that they will turn to the Lordship of Jesus to enable them to overcome the world.
Father, I celebrate you for accepting me in your beloved, Jesus Christ, my Saviour. Amen
