DAILY WORDS OF HOPE
BY PCG, HOPE CONGREGATION–SAK. EST
TODAY’S VERSE: PHILIPPIANS 1:12-26
THEME: LIVING JOYFULLY ALL THE TIME
WORDS OF HOPE:
Paul was joyful that he was in chains for Christ. He had always wanted to be in Rome and now he will be there but in chains. Paul was held captive, but with the captivity came glorious opportunities to press on; it gave him an audience with whom he could share the gospel, right within the walls of the jailhouse. They tried to shut him up through imprisonment, but instead that gave him a ‘pulpit’. To him, more people are even coming to know the Lord because of his love for the Lord even in chains. He has realized that the reason for his life is to preach Christ no matter the challenges that are accompanied with this mission. For some of us, to live is for possessions, pleasure and prestige, but for Paul, he was convinced that to live is Christ and to die is gain (verse 21). What are you living for?
It is easy to get discouraged about personal circumstances or to take unimportant events too seriously. But Paul teaches us that our problems are not as important as our perspective towards these problems. You need the right perspective in your life. (Read verse 14 again)
Paul’s lifestyle in challenging times encouraged the believers. Note that God has a purpose in each problem as stated in Romans 8: 28.
Do you see life from the right perspective? Do you recognize that God has a purpose in everything that you are going through? There are so many things calling our attention but you need to set the right priorities. This will cause you to stand firm even when people are against you. If you are living for any other purpose than Christ, you are living an empty life. You are living in a very temporary life. You do not have any lasting joy. Joy comes from putting Jesus at the centre of your life.
• Pray for the grace to be joyful at all times.
• Pray to have a good perspective in life.
• Pray that you will focus on God.
Father, I pray in the name of Jesus that from this day onwards let this be my resolve, that for me to live is Christ and to die is gain. Amen
