TODAY’S VERSE: PHILIPPIANS 2:5-11

THEME: HUMILIATION AND EXALTATION

WORDS OF HOPE:
Paul says of Jesus that he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death on the cross. The great characteristics of Jesus’ life were humility, obedience, and self-renunciation. He did not desire to dominate men but only to serve them. He did not desire his own way but only God’s way. He did not desire to exalt himself but only to renounce all his glory for the sake of men. Again and again, the New Testament is sure that only the man who humbles himself will be exalted (Matthew 23:12; Luke 14:11; Luke 18:14). If humility, obedience, and self-renunciation
were the supreme characteristics of the life of Jesus, they must also be the hallmarks of the Christian. Selfishness, self-seeking and self-display destroys our likeness to Christ and our fellowship with each other. Jesus’ humility and obedience to the father came with the following exaltation:
a) Exalted to the highest place (verse 9).
b) Given a name above every other name (verse 9).
c) Acknowledgement of the Lordship of Jesus by all (verse 10-11).

Are you looking for exaltation? How ready are you to obey the Lord?
For us Christians, there is only one way to be exalted. That is through humility. There are too many Christians who are expecting exaltation but are not ready to humble themselves. Be different in your office, environment, school and church. Let us emulate the character of Jesus. The scripture says in verse 6 and 7 that; “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness.” He died a very shameful death on the cross so as to obey His Father. How ready are you to obey the Lord?
To obey is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22). The follower of Christ must think always, not of himself but of others, not of his own glory but of the glory of God.

PRAYER TOPICS:
• Pray for the Spirit of humility.
• Lord, grant me the spirit of obedience.
• Pray for self-renunciation.

PRAYER:
I pray in the name of Jesus destroying the spirit of selfishness, self-seeking and self-display in my life in the name of Jesus. Amen
