DAILY WORDS OF HOPE

TODAY’S VERSE: COLOSSIANS 3:1-14
TOPIC: MORTIFY THE FLESH
WORDS OF HOPE:
Mortification (to put to death) of the flesh is the process by which the believer seeks to put to death the evil desires of the flesh. Every believer living in this human body will have one desire or the other coming from the flesh. Some of those desires arise from either within us (our thoughts) or the environment we find ourselves.
Paul mentions sexual immorality, greed, anger, lies, filthy language from our lips and unforgiveness as examples of such evil desires. Galatians 5:19-21 also mentions some examples of such evil acts of the flesh. To be able to mortify such evil desires, we must set our hearts and minds on the things above. We must always remember that we died with Christ and have been made new through His resurrection. Paul teaches us in Galatians 5:16 to live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
• Pray that you will be able to identify any desire of the flesh which is not from God.
• Pray for the grace to put to death evil desires of the flesh.
• Pray for the grace to always live by the Spirit.
Our Father, help us to set our minds on things above. Amen
