DAILY WORDS OF HOPE
BY PCG, HOPE CONGREGATION–SAK. EST
TODAY’S VERSE: LUKE 9:46-48
TOPIC: AVOID UNHEALTHY COMPETITIONS
WORDS OF HOPE:
Unhealthy competition is one that begins with comparison and leads to jealousy, envy, strife and rivalry. It affects your contentment and confidence in God as well as your love towards others.
Today, we find some common examples in our schools, workplaces, homes and unfortunately, even in the church. Students are jealous when they are not the ones who attained an academic laurel. A staff member envies his colleague and will do all possible to get the other relegated to the background. Children in a home can harbour some hatred for each other because the other got commended for good work done. Some couples even compete and become jealous because of a feat the other partner has achieved. Unfortunately, these are all unhealthy competition. Which other unhealthy competition have you identified in your home, school, workplace or church? How can you help resolve such unhealthy competition?
To overcome unhealthy competitions, Paul teaches us in Philippians 2:3-5 that we should not do anything out of selfish ambition. Rather, we should look at the interest of others and in humility value others above ourselves.
Jesus also teaches us that the least (the one who serves) among you is the greatest. Therefore, humility and love must be our watchword.
• Thank God for His word today.
• Pray that God will grant you the grace to avoid unhealthy competitions.
• Pray that you will love and serve others in humility.
Grant unto us a heart of humility borne out of brotherly love to do away with all unhealthy competitions in Jesus’ name. Amen
