IMG_6958On Saturday 13th April, the Committee on Health and Environment in collaboration with the Church’s session led a team of medical professionals to conduct a health screening exercise at the Church premises. The team consisted of six Doctors, seven Nurses, a Pharmacist and an ENT specialist. The aim of the exercise was to screen participants for certain diseases as well as advise them on healthy living habits.

In an interview with Mrs. Comfort Opoku, the Chairperson of the Committee on Health and Environment, she mentioned that people ought to be concerned about their health, which motived the church to organize such a programme. She added that, as “Christian we are expected to live long according to the will of God but this can only be fulfilled if we take care of our health. We therefore have to be careful of what goes into our bodies and also acquire a habit of exercising regularly as this will keep us physically fit”.

At the end of the exercise, 114 participants were attended to but the youth was significantly missing. The News team is yet to find out why the majority of the youth was absent from the exercise. There was medical screening for Malaria, Hepatitis B, Sugar Test, Prostate and Pap Smear (PSA). The ENT specialist also attended to the ears, nose and throat needs of participants.

Most of the members spoken to indicated their pleasure for taking part in the exercise and commended the organizers for making the medical checkup affordable and accessible. There was a general suggestion to make the screening exercises regular, at least thrice a year.
