As said by Abraham Lincoln ‘Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s CHARACTER, give him power’. Therefore what is CHARACTER? It is the part of a person that makes one positively different from anyone else. In Greek, CHARACTER is known as ETHOS which implies showing inner moral strength. The excellence of a person is in his CHARACTER. Persons of CHARACTER are noted for their integrity, honesty, ethics and charity.
From the life of Joseph, we can infer that he was a man of CHARACTER. The house of Potiphar prospered because the LORD was with Joseph in everything that he did so he was placed at the helm of affairs in the house of Potiphar. The test of CHARACTER came for Joseph when he was asked to lay down with Potiphar’s wife. Joseph displayed CHARACTER, INNER TENACITY, INTEGRITY and HONESTY.
As Christians we should fear GOD as part of our CHARACTER. (Daniel 3:16-17, Daniel 1:8).
DEVELOPING OUR CHARACTER
Christians can develop their CHARACTER by;
- Controlling their thought (Philippians 4:28)
- Practicing Christian virtues (2 Peter 1:5-7)
- Guarding their hearts (Proverbs 4:23)
- Depending absolutely on the LORD (Daniel 3:16-17)
GOD’S EXPECTATION (CONCLUSION)
GOD expects us to lead a life of integrity and honesty for this is the whole conclusion of the matter on our CHARACTER (Romans 5:3-5, 2Peter 1:5-7, Job 2:3), AMEN.
