The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev Prof Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante has reminded agents and leaders of the various congregations to commit themselves to prayer and evangelism.

He made the call during a pastoral working visit to the Sakumono District of the PCG on Sunday, May 23, 2021. The purpose of the visit was to acquaint himself with the life of the Church.

He was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Florence Mante and other officers at the General Assembly Office including Rev. Mrs. Esther Oduro, Director of Church Life and Nature, The Director of Finance, Mr. Alex De-Graft Hanson, Director of Finance at the Head Office. and other officers of the General Assembly Office.

Present at the service were the Chairperson of the Ga Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye and the Clerk of Ga Presbytery, Rev. Solomon Nii Mensah Adjei.

Addressing members of the church at the Hope Congregation of PCG, Sakumono Estates, Rt Rev Prof Mante said God’s original design for his creation was to have a relationship with the people He had created, as such, Christians must devote more time in prayer to stay connected to God.

“When we come to church, the idea is for the leader, liturgists and preachers to make sure that people are reconnected deeply with their maker (God) so that they can go out there and live properly. So that when they go to their offices, work or school, they can work properly with the proper connectedness to God.”

He said the church should not be a place for entertainment but rather a place that will help Christians connect to God.

Rt Rev Prof Mante added that, the church should be a place where people focus on spiritual connectedness. He, therefore, appealed to all Presbyterians to spend enough time on all things spiritual when they go to church.

He said out of the two or two and half hours spent in church, Presbyterians must spend 90 minutes focusing on things that are spiritual through prayer and songs and all things that will help them stay connected to God.

“When church members come to church, let’s get them to pray….these days, the alternatives are many and if they (members) come and you do not spend enough time on things that promote spiritual growth, the members will switch off” he said.

The Moderator also advised service leaders to come up with vibrant and well-prepared sermons to keep God’s flock nourished at all times.

He charged congregations to develop a system that will focus on the youth and children in the church to keep them and help in church growth.

According to the Moderator, apart from being spiritual witnesses of the church, Presbyterians and for that matter, Christians play a key role in ministering to people by being social, environmental and moral witnesses of Christ.

The Sakumono District Minister of the PCG, Rev Emmanuel Obeng Ntow in his welcoming address commended the Moderator for the visit.

He recounted the history of the creation of the district and indicated that currently the district was made up of six locals and three preaching points adding that at the time of its creation 11 years ago, membership was 4,466 but has increased to 5,915 representing an increase of 41 %.

He was optimistic that with the implementation of the Vision 1.5 Project, the District will increase its membership.
