DAILY WORDS OF HOPE

(Lent Day 13 🛐)
WED. 20.03.2019

TODAY’S VERSE:
At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you.” He replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.’ In any case, I must press on today and tomorrow and the next day—for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem! “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’[a]”
Luke13: 31-35

THEME: Staying on to the end

WORDS OF HOPE:
Jesus had made this astonishing point in the verse preceding today’s text: there are those who are first but will be last and those last who will be first. How many people would like to hear this, especially if in your own self-assessment, you consider yourself to be among the first. In the verses stated above, we see the Pharisees ask Jesus to leave the scene because Herod would seek after His life. Is that really the case? Aren’t they themselves uncomfortable with what he will say next and scared of hearing more? Are the Pharisees not a self-appointed righteous people? But Jesus would not be deterred. He came alone but will not go alone: He has come to save the lost into the kingdom of God, to give hope to the hopeless, to turn the heart of the wicked back unto God.

PRAYER POINTS:
● Pray for the grace to hold on to Christ despite the difficulty it poses.
● Pray for the Spirit of perseverance to stay in the Christian faith until death.
● Pray for strength to pursue the mark of the higher calling in Christ.

PRAYER:
Lord, we don’t always understand what you are up to, or why you went to die in that way. We pray for strength to follow wherever you go, to be sheltered under your wings from all the evil that may come. Amen🙏🏽
