TODAY’S VERSE:
A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. Psalm 84:10

WORDS OF HOPE:
The work of a watchman is, more often than not, despised in our society. Even with the advent of the modern trained uniformed private security personnel, some people do not spare the opportunity to tease them as being only ‘glorified’ watchmen. It appears the ancient Israelites may have had a similar attitude to this kind of job. The comparison of the work of saphaph (pronounced saw-faf; translated gatekeeper in English), which is standing at or guarding the threshold, to living ‘the good life in the homes of the wicked’ by the author of today’s text is suggestive of this observation. Despite the seeming despisal of the work of a gatekeeper, the psalmist preferred being one in the house of God to dwelling in the tents of wickedness. He rated it higher than living ‘the good life in the homes of the wicked.’ To the psalmist, there was no better place to be than the house of God. To him, a single day spent in the presence of God was better than a thousand anywhere else; and, I dare say, that sure includes all the nicest places in the world…the places that offer the best opportunities to make all the pounds and dollars.
How well do we also value spending time with God, being in His house, being in His presence? The Lord calls us to repentance today. He calls us to a change in our perspectives. May we, like the psalmist, choose being in God’s presence over every other thing. Shalom!
PRAYER POINTS:
• Pray that you will value spending time with God than any other thing in this life.
• Pray that you will be enabled to do away with anything that competes for God’s space in your life.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, may I, like the psalmist, choose being a watchman in Your house over being anywhere else. May I value being in Your presence all the days of my life, in Jesus’ Name! Amen 🙏🏽
