TODAY’S VERSE:
But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
John 10:2-5, 14

THEME: KNOWING HIS VOICE – AN IMPORTANT ASPECT OF KNOWING HIM

WORDS OF HOPE:
Occasionally, whiles she is at my parents’, my elder sister (the one I am closest to in the family) calls me on our mum’s phone. Often, when she does, she tries to mimic our mum’s voice and way of speaking with the view to tricking me into believing that it’s our mum I am speaking with. But each time she tries that, I find her out. Though some people might not agree, I think that it is quite easy to recognize the voice of someone you really know. In today’s text, while showing the difference between Himself (the Good Shepherd) and other shepherds (who are actually hirelings or thieves and robbers), Jesus indicated that sheep know the voice of their shepherd but not the voice of strangers. Knowing the voice of the Good Shepherd is a crucial aspect of knowing Him. Why is that? Because, like Jesus alludes to in this text, there are many strangers (thieves and robbers) whose sole purpose is to steal, kill and destroy the sheep by breaking into the fold and or deceiving them. Thus, knowing the voice of the Good Shepherd will enable the sheep not be lured or deceived by the voice of strangers (no matter how hard they try to mimic the Good Shepherd’s voice); they will, instead, run away from them. How then do we learn to recognize the Good Shepherd’s voice?
• Come into His fold i.e. become His sheep
• Find out how He speaks in scripture
• Fellowship and commune with Him
While there are many strange voices that want to draw us away from Jesus, the Good Shepherd, Jesus seeks to commune with us and lead us. Let us learn to know His voice!

PRAYER POINTS:
• Pray that as Jesus’ sheep, you will know His voice.
• Pray that as Jesus’ sheep, you will run away from every strange voice and not be lured away from Jesus by them.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, please help me to know Your voice in my quest to know You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen 🙏🏽
